I like reading, always have. But the older I get the more books I own, which is fine - they're a good thing. But it does mean that almost everywhere you go in our flat there are books.
In the cabinet thing in the lounge.
In the bottom of the cabinet thing, where we keep wrapping paper.
And on the other side, where we keep some rather odd goggles.
On top of the weird cabinet thing.
Behind the sofa.
Behind the chair that no one ever sits in.
Next to my side of the bed.
And even on the floor next to my side of the bed.
There are more, but I can't be bothered to take pictures of them. In fact the only place where I couldn't see a book was the hallway, but then that's the place for my amazing shoe and rucksack collection, and that's a whole other post.

Impressive but have you read them all?

Oh my, some of those piles make me dizzy.
I just expanded each picture to check out the titles. It's the equivalent to walking right up to someone's bookshelf as soon as you walk in their home. Which I always do.

i always thought that's what parents' lofts are for.

But where do you keep The Painting?
Posted by: Ben | 05/28/2007 at 07:54 PM
Rusty, I've read most of them, though the lot by my bed need reading.
Helen, are there any that surprise you, or that you would like to borrow?
Beeker, my parent’s loft is full of their books, and not a pretty sight.
Ben, I can't remember what I did with the painting. It might be in the garden...

That's like me, I devour books. I eat them for breakfast. I have books piled up everywhere. My bookshelf is sagging down the centre. And I have to admit that out of all of them...I have not read some of them. Have you heard about www.goodreads.com ?

on closer inspection, i can report we only have one book in common. Sophie's World. a good one.
Posted by: beeker | 05/29/2007 at 09:35 AM
Thanks for the heads up on goodreads Laura, I'll check it out.
Beeker, I enjoyed Sophie's World, though it goes a bit nuts at the end.

We have a fair few books in common, which is nice because it pleases me to see books I've enjoyed on other people's shelves.
I've not read any of Colin Wilson though, just checked his books out on Amazon and think I might like them. I'm most tempted by The Outsider.

I was really into him when I was a teenager, and when I believed in UFO's, and the supernatural. I was going to tell you to avoid his books, but on reflection I don't think I should dismiss The Outsider so quickly (it came before his UFO stage). Do you want borrow it?
Posted by: Colman | 05/29/2007 at 09:24 PM
Oh, somehow I didn't pick up on the supernatural link. His new book about Angry Young Men has been reviewed a lot lately...
I'd love to borrow it, thanks.

Damn - I was hoping you'd say no. Can you mail me your address?
Posted by: Colman | 05/30/2007 at 12:47 PM
Do any of those books belong to The Wife?
Posted by: Ben | 05/30/2007 at 01:15 PM
The Cognitive Neurosciences (not).
Posted by: Paul H. Colman | 05/30/2007 at 10:02 PM
I should point out that; The Wife can read, that lots of the books are hers, and that she is generally much smarter and more qualified than me.

Is she a planner?
Posted by: Ben | 05/31/2007 at 08:51 AM
Ben - Paul said she's SMARTER. Go figure.
Posted by: Marcus | 05/31/2007 at 09:53 AM
Gosh, don't worry about it. Seriously, I've got plenty of books waiting to be read. I really must stem my compulsion for aquiring them.
Posted by: Helen | 05/31/2007 at 01:24 PM
I was joking Helen, more than happy to lend it to you.
Posted by: Colman | 05/31/2007 at 04:48 PM
isn't this why they created libraries?
Posted by: Lauren | 06/01/2007 at 05:23 PM
No, I think there were invented to give quiet people somewhere to go, or work.
