Simon has provided some guide costings for the bike. These are his guesses.
Frame and forks: £60
Wheels: £50
Chain set: £80
Bottom bracket: £20
Headset and stern: £35
Chain: £15
Seatpost and seat: £20
Handlebars: £40
Pedals: £15
Brake lever: £20
Extras (clamp, tensioner, tyres, cog): £60
And a basket for putting the shopping in: £33.21
That lot should come in at about £415 (ignoring the basket), and we've only got £200, so we'll have to get some bargains and maybe steal some stuff (that's a joke).
If any of you are selling a bottom bracket for £20, or less, then do let me know.
Good evening.

I have a feeling that my good friend Tom Lewis Reynier will claim to be able to get you most of that stuff from the council dump that's near his house. He picks up a lot of old crap down there, including a great book about compost, which he gave to me. It has come in very useful.

You're mad for the country aren't you.

The local dump is good by all accounts for frames etc. But you can pick up chain sets much cheaper?
KMC S10 Stainless Chain 1/8 £10.00
Track Chainset Sq 172mm 49T £45
BB get a Shimano UN72 £12
Find saddle and seat on ebay or gumtree
Use pedals off your Specialized
You can use existing stem etc, depending on what barts you want, most LBS have bargain bins.
The biggest cost will always be wheels, as they need to be properly dished for fixed, it's not just a case of putting a single cog on the back wheel!
Those costs are way too high, you gotta learn to search out the bargains my boy!

There are some really cheap donor bikes on ebay...

Thanks, Tom. I was hoping they would be high.

There are indeed. But also seen a peugeot frame, still at 99p. Your best bet is to buy a cheap complete, then just swap the bits you need to make it fixed. Try get something with 531 or columbus tubing, better and lighter. Did you check out the London FGSS site, you can get most bits from trading on there.

How's the frame and part hunting going Paul? Have you got a donor vehicle yet, I am watching a nice columbus frame on eBay if you want the link, probably your size. Might be out of budget mind?
