Goodness me, a little bit of the old Colman magic was back tonight.
Let me set the scene - it's late, I've had a long day at work getting ready for a tough pitch, I then come home to do more work. I'm feeling a little thirsty so I decide to have a cup of tea. You know, to refresh the spirits and warm the soul. I boil the kettle, standard operating procedure for this kind of thing, and then add the boiling water to my mug. I then stir the water and teabag (pretty aggressively). And remove the bag.
So far so good.
Then, as I'm balancing the bag on a teaspoon and edging my way over to the bin, the bag drops. But, and God this makes me feel proud, before the bag can hit the floor I catch it on top of my foot and flip it into the air, catching it in my hand. I then dribble boiling water on my hand before putting it into the bin.
What could have been a disaster turned into a moment of great achievement. I grabbed glory when only defeat seemed possible. Sure I burnt my foot, see...
...and caused some dampening to the sock. But it was worth it. I've always been good at this kind of thing (catching stuff before it hits the floor), but I'd hope you'd agree the bar has been raised tonight.
I need to lie down.
